Haysville officer hit by car in south Wichita but is uninjured

A call concerning a suspicious person parked in a south Wichita driveway Friday morning led to a Haysville officer being struck in the leg when the man tried to drive away.

The Haysville officer was not injured, according to Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Lt. Tim Myers.

Michael Anthony Lopez was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of aggravated battery of an officer, possession of stolen property and DUI. At 3:52 a.m., officers were called about the suspicious person parked in a driveway in a running car in the 11900 block of South Washington, Myers said.

A Sedgwick County deputy and the Haysville officer confronted the man, and he refused to step out of the white Nissan Altima. The man tried to drive away when he hit the officer’s leg, Myers said.

The vehicle was reported stolen out of El Dorado, Myers said, and is also suspected of being connected to a Mulvane burglary the night before.

Editor’s Note: An earlier version of the story listed the wrong name of the arrested suspect.
