Armed suspect shot after pursuit in Chase County, trooper says

Law enforcement officials are investigating after a Kansas Highway Patrol officer was involved in a shooting in Chase County on Thursday.

The shooting happened at around 1:25 p.m. along the Kansas Turnpike, Trooper Chad Crittenden said in a tweet. Crittenden said the Highway Patrol used “tire deflation devices” before the suspect’s vehicle came to stop.

“There was a confrontation with an armed suspect, and he was shot,” Crittenden said in a tweet. “The male suspect was taken into custody and transported to a Wichita hospital. No officers were injured in the incident.

Crittenden said the Kansas Bureau of Investigation will be investigating the shooting, which is standard practice during after a shooting.
