Wichita man arrested in missing body case charged with second-degree murder
A Wichitan arrested on suspicion of killing a man whose body is still missing has been charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, according to Sedgwick County District Court records.
Police jailed Jeffery Lee Hill, 53, on Monday, about two weeks after authorities received a tip that 50-year-old Jeffery Jones of Hutchinson was dead and his body was buried somewhere outside of town. The tipster told authorities Jones was killed at a home in the 2100 block of South Water and Lee was involved, police said earlier this week.
A criminal complaint filed Thursday against Hill says Jones was killed on or around Dec. 9 but there were no other details about what happened to him. Police have said the men were acquaintances, and that evidence and witness interviews led to Hill’s arrest, but gave no other details.
Hill remains in the Sedgwick County Jail in lieu of $350,000 bond. His next court date is Jan. 30, according to court records.
