Former Super Car Guys TV personality arrested by Wichita police in drug investigation

The actor who appeared in old Super Car Guys commercials has been arrested on suspicion of several drug crimes after Wichita police served a search warrant at a house.

Aaron Christian Wirtz, 37, was arrested Tuesday at a home in the 200 block of Summitlawn, near Maple and Ridge, Sedgwick County Jail booking reports show. Wichita Police Department spokesman Officer Charley Davidson said the arrest came after officers served a search warrant as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation.

Police found a pound of methamphetamine, two ounces of heroin, narcotic pills, a mushroom grow operation, drug paraphernalia and two handguns inside the home.

Wirtz was arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, possession of heroin with intent to sell, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of a hallucinogenic with intent to sell, possession of nonnarcotics with intent to sell, unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released from the jail’s custody Wednesday afternoon.

Wirtz is well-known in the Wichita area as the over-the-top Super Car Guys pitchman in the used car dealership’s television commercials. The character in the commercials has been described as a crazy car guy with a style that is both obnoxious and hilarious.

In 2016, Wirtz spoke with an Eagle reporter on his struggles with fame and haters.

“When it comes to a used car TV guy, people don’t think of the concept of acting,” he said. “It’s, ‘This guy has to be like that.’ People say, ‘Where do you get all that energy?’ and, ‘You’re on drugs’ and all these things you see on Twitter.”

The dealership is known for the slogan “buying a car doesn’t have to suck.”
