Wichita police identify man killed in hit-and-run crash in Riverside; no arrests made
Wichita police have identified the man who was killed in a hit-and-run crash Tuesday afternoon as 69-year-old Marc Mourning.
Police found Mourning lying on 13th Street near the intersection with Payne after officers responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle versus pedestrian accident, Officer Charley Davidson said in a news release. The driver left the scene of the wreck, which was reported at around 1:20 p.m., and Mourning was pronounced dead.
Investigators determined that a 24-year-old man was driving a silver 2003 Honda CRV eastbound on 13th Street, Davidson said. The SUV hit Mourning as he crossed 13th Street from north to south. The man kept driving, but later called 911 to report his involvement.
Payne is at one end of a curve on 13th Street, which is a four-lane road with a 30 mph speed limit in that area. There are no crosswalks at the intersection.
Jail booking reports show no one has been arrested in connection to the case. Police said the investigation is ongoing and will be presented to the district attorney’s office.
Police previously said Mourning lived in the Riverside neighborhood where the crash happened.
Mourning was a musician with The Moanin Glories band, according to the Midwest Music Masters website. He also played drums with Stallion, a Wichita rock band, according to the group’s Facebook page.
