Two teens hurt in drug-related shooting in north Wichita

Wichita police say two 16-year-olds shot early Thursday morning in north Wichita are expected to survive.

Officers were sent to a possible shooting call at a home in the 2400 block of North Mascot at about 12:15 a.m. Shortly after, a vehicle dropped the two male teens off at a Wichita hospital’s emergency room. Wichita police spokesman Officer Paul Cruz said by email that the teens had gunshot wounds “to their body,” but the injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Police found shell casings and bullet strikes to a home in the neighborhood where the shooting was reported, near 25th and Arkansas. A 71-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man were inside.

“This was not a random incident and is drug-related,” Cruz said in the email. No one has been arrested.

The police department is asking anyone with information about the shooting to call Wichita-Sedgwick County Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111 or the See Something, Say Something hot line at 316-519-2282.
