Woman found with multiple stab wounds in Butler County dies
A woman found with multiple stab wounds Dec. 14 in Butler County died Saturday, the Augusta Department of Public Safety said.
Public Information Officer Colleen Beckley said Wesley Medical Center informed the Department that 59-year-old Dana Haynes died around 1:15 p.m. Haynes and 58-year-old Jeffrey Carley were both taken to the hospital after officers found them around 12:20 p.m. on Dec. 14. Carley, who was not stabbed, has since been released from the hospital, Beckley said.
Wayne Riggins, 29, had previously been arrested in the case. He was charged earlier this week with attempted second-degree murder and aggravated battery, court records show. The department said in a Facebook post it will be working with Butler County Attorney’s Office to revise the charges against Riggins.
Beckley would not say the relationship between the two victims or where the attack occurred. She referred those questions to the Attorney’s Office.
Kansas Department of Corrections records show Riggins turned 29 on Saturday. He has seven convictions, all in Butler County, for burglary, theft, criminal damage to property, drug convictions and attempted aggravated burglary.
Riggins, nicknamed “Lil Wayne,” has more than 50 disciplinary reports during his time in prison. His last prison sentence ended in September 2018, records show. His parole ended in September 2019.
