Garden City student wore ski mask to impress friend, school goes in lockdown
A Garden City High School student wearing a ski mask caused the school to go into lockdown on Friday.
According to the Garden City Police Department: a substitute teacher saw a person outside of her classroom with a ski mask and holding a cellphone. The person appeared to be taking photos of the classroom “then immediately left the area.” She reported it to the school resource officer around 10:30 a.m.
Around the same time, another teacher reported that a student who had been suspended for a weapons violation was on campus. The school was put on lockdown.
Police determined the suspended student was not on campus and later found out that a different student, a 17-year-old boy, wore the mask “to impress a friend in an adjacent classroom.”
The lockdown was lifted at 12:43 p.m., police said.
