Wichita officer working Kellogg accident injured by suspected drunken driver
A Wichita officer was injured while working a wreck thought to involve alcohol Thursday morning on Kellogg when another driver clipped the back of a patrol vehicle.
Police suspect the driver who ran into the patrol vehicle also had been drinking. The car was going about 60 mph, police said.
Officer Charley Davidson said two officers were working the single-vehicle accident at around 3:40 a.m. on Kellogg, just west of the central business district. It may have involved alcohol, police think.
One officer was in the patrol SUV in the right lane with the lights on when a 30-year-old woman driving a 2013 Ford Focus clipped the back end of the patrol SUV, causing the police vehicle to spin, he said.
Davidson said the officer and the 30-year-old woman were both taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The officer has been released from the hospital. Davidson did not know if the other driver had been released. He said the driver has not been arrested and the crash is still being investigated.
