Three Wichita men rob home, lead police on chase
Three Wichita men who led police on a chase were arrested in connection to a home robbery on Tuesday in southwest Wichita, the Wichita Police Department said.
Officer Charley Davidson said police think the robbery occurred during a drug deal.
Devontice Trae Joe, 23, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery; 20-year-old Darius Isiaha Jackson and 19-year-old Jaylin Javon Young were both booked on two counts of aggravated robbery.
Police, Davidson said, were called around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday to the 2500 block of West Wildwood by the victims. There were three adults in the home when three men came in and one brandished what was reported to police as a handgun.
The men drove off in a silver Chevrolet Equinox.
Police spotted the vehicle about 2.5 miles away, at Pawnee and Broadway. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver took off.
A backpack with marijuana that was thrown from the vehicle during the chase was recovered, Davidson said. He wouldn’t say how large a quantity of marijuana there was, but did say it was more than a personal amount.
About 2 miles from where the car was spotted, the three men ran from the vehicle. All three men were found in the area and arrested without further incident, Davidson said.
A pellet gun was found outside of the car. Davidson said officers are still investigating if the pellet gun was the reported handgun.
Cash and cell phones were also taken from the home during the robbery, Davidson said.
