Would-be robber wields sweet weapon at south Wichita Kwik Shop

Kit Kats can be a sweet and crunchy snack, but one man decided they could double as something else: a would-be weapon.

The manager of a Kwik Shop convenience store in the 2700 block of South Oliver saw a silver SUV pull into the parking lot shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday, Lt. James Espinoza said.

A stranger got out of the SUV and came into the store, pulled out what the manager thought was a handgun and pointed it at him, saying “Freeze! Get on your knees!”

The manager complied, Espinoza said. When the suspect began laughing, the manager looked up and saw that the man was actually holding a Kit Kat candy bar.

The suspect then left without taking anything, Espinoza said.

The same convenience store had been robbed the day before, Espinoza said, but the two cases do not appear to be related.
