Two killed, two hurt in crash near Mulvane, Sedgwick County sheriff’s spokesman says
Two people have died and another two were taken to a hospital after a crash on the road dividing Sedgwick and Sumner counties.
The injury accident was reported at around 1:18 p.m. Thursday at 119th Street South and Hydraulic, between Mulvane and the Kansas Star Casino. Multiple injuries were reported.
Deputies arrived about 5 minutes after the crash was reported and found a Volvo station wagon and a Ford Edge SUV had collided, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Tim Myers said..
A 29-year-old man and a 57-year-old man died at the scene, Myers said. A 49-year-old woman who was in the same vehicle was taken by ambulance to a hospital.
A 60-year-old woman was the only occupant in the other vehicle, Myers said. She was also taken to a hospital.
“At this time, we believe that the Volvo, which was traveling south on Hydraulic, ran the stop sign and collided with the vehicle that was traveling west on 119th,” Myers said.
The street also serves as K-53 highway.
“In speaking with Sheriff Chambers from Sumner County, we have had bad accidents here,” Myers said. “You have people that are traveling southbound on Hydraulic, and I think because of the bridge location just north of 119th Street, people don’t realize they have that stop sign until it might be a little too late.”
The investigation is ongoing and the area is expected to be closed to traffic for several hours.
