Four shot at southeast Wichita party; ‘Lack of cooperation’ hampers investigation, police say

Four people were shot Friday night at a party in southeast Wichita, police say.

All are expected to survive, Wichita police Officer Charley Davidson said. But witnesses are not cooperating with police, “which has affected them being able to thoroughly investigate,” he said.

The shooting happened about 10:30 p.m. Friday at a business in the 1600 block of South George Washington Boulevard, near Harry and Hillside. Police say there was a party going on at that location when two unidentified men opened fire.

The victims include three men — ages 20, 25 and 27 — and one woman — age 19. The 27-year-old and 20-year-old men were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The 25-year-old man refused medical treatment.

The 19-year-old woman was tracked down at a local hospital, where she was being treated for a gunshot wound to her leg and elbow. Her vehicle also had gun damage, Davidson said.

Davidson said the shooting “was not a random incident.”

The only descriptors Wichita police have for the two suspected shooters is that they’re unknown black males and that one of the suspected shooters was wearing red shorts, a red Nike shirt and was armed with a silver handgun.

Wichita police are asking anyone with additional information to call detectives at 316-268-4407. If you would like to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
