A lack of cooperation is hampering police as they investigate a shooting late Monday afternoon at a Wichita park, officials said.
Residents who live next to Murdock Park at 802 N. Minnesota reported hearing a group of men get into a fight shortly before 4:30 p.m. Monday, Lt. James Espinoza said. Witnesses said someone then pulled out a gun and fired two or three shots.
A 19-year-old man walked into Wesley Medical Center a short time later with a gunshot wound to his leg, Espinoza said. A police report indicated he was hit in the left leg.
The victim was originally listed in serious condition but has since shown signs of improvement, Espinoza said.
“He’s being uncooperative,” Espinoza said of the victim.
Police are looking into the possibility that the clash and shooting were gang-related.
