Teens robbed while walking in south Wichita

Three armed robbers made off with a teenager’s cellphone and wallet early Sunday in south Wichita, Wichita police Sgt. Brian Sigman said.

Two 18-year-old men and a 19-year-old woman were walking along Orient Street near Harry at around 12:40 a.m. Sunday when they were approached from behind by three men, one with what was “described as a machine gun,” Sigman said.

The men ordered them to the ground and stole the phone and wallet. One of the 18-year-olds was struck by one of the suspects’ weapons, receiving minor injuries. He was not transported to the hospital.

Sigman said the three then got onto bicycles and left, heading south on Fern Street.

Police do not have any suspects.
