Two officers on patrol in south Wichita found a pedestrian dead after a hit-and-run crash, police said.

Emergency crews were called to Harry and I-135 just after 7 p.m. Friday for a reported crash, a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said. One person was reported to be in very critical condition.

Wichita police tweeted about an hour later that there was a fatal hit-and-run crash on the Harry overpass crossing the highway.

Officer Paul Cruz said that two officers on patrol were driving on the overpass when they saw someone in the street. When they walked up to her, they determined that she had been hit by a vehicle.

Paramedics were called, and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, Cruz said.

The investigation is ongoing. Police ask anyone with information on the case to call Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.

Westbound traffic on Harry is blocked off after the crash, and eastbound traffic has been reduced to one lane.
