Man charged in crash that killed off-duty Wichita police motorcycle officer and son
A man has been charged in a crash that killed an off-duty Wichita police motorcycle officer and his son.
James Neal Dalrymple was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter and failing to yield the right of way, Sedgwick County sheriff’s Lt. Tim Myers said in a release.
Stacey Woodson, 37, and his 9-year-old son Braedon Woodson were killed in a crash on April 27 at 21st Street and 167th St. West. Woodson was a Wichita police officer in the motorcycle unit.
Involuntary manslaughter is a felony crime, and failing to yield the right of way is a misdemeanor.
The Woodsons were riding a motorcycle east on on 21st Street when a southbound pickup pulled out in front of them, authorities have said. The motorcycle collided with the pickup. Stacey Woodson died at the scene, and Braeden died at a hospital.
Officials identified Dalrymple, 35, of Valley Center, as the driver of the pickup. He was originally arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter, aggravated battery from a DUI causing great bodily harm and driving under the influence.
Woodson was a 16-year veteran of the Wichita Police Department.
“He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and WPD family,” Police Chief Gordon Ramsay previously said of Woodson. “Our thoughts and prayers continue for Stacy’s family, friends, and others affected by this tragedy.”
