Trial of man accused in 2003 homicide in Valley Center delayed
The trial of Daniel Perez, a Valley Center man accused of first-degree murder in the 2003 death of Patricia Hughes at a Valley Center compound, has been indefinitely delayed, Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office spokesman Dan Dillon said Monday.
The trial was originally set to start next week. Dillon said the trial will be delayed “for a while,” and that it is possible it may not commence until early 2015.
In a hearing Monday in the case, Judge Joseph Bribiesca ruled that some evidence from a Texas case in which Perez was accused of sexual misconduct with a child will be allowed in the trial, Dillon said.
