Two Wichitans were arrested following a drive-by shooting in north Wichita, police said.

Two Wichita police officers responded to a call at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday near 10th and Jackson. A 40-year-old man told them he heard three shots and then saw a silver Ford Mustang speed off, Wichita police Officer Charley Davidson said.

There were no injuries or damages reported, Davidson said. But police did find several shell casings on the ground.

An hour and a half later, a few blocks away, the same two officers spotted a silver Mustang making an illegal U-turn at 10th and Broadway, police said.

The car had two people in it, one 20 and the other 21, and both were armed with handguns, Davidson said. He said the 21-year-old is the suspected shooter.

Sedgwick County Jail records show two people were arrested at 10th and Broadway on Wednesday night.

Ramonyka E. Smith of Wichita was arrested on charges of criminal possession of a firearm by a felon, improper U-turn, driving on a suspended license, possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine, and possession of drug paraphernalia, records show.

Travon L. Coleman of Wichita was arrested on charges of criminal discharge of a firearm, possession of marijuana, transporting an open container, and possession of drug paraphernalia, records show.

“Great police work by these two officers in making an arrest in a violent crime,” Davidson said.
