Felony charges against Wichita lawyer list losses of several hundred thousand dollars
A Wichita lawyer — Larry Toomey — has been charged with five felonies, including theft, mistreatment of a dependent adult and mistreatment of an elderly person, with alleged losses of at least several hundred thousand dollars, court documents show.
Toomey has been charged in Sedgwick County’s state District Court, but among the witnesses are two FBI investigators. Another witness listed in the court case against Toomey is identified as an enforcement agent with the Kansas Gaming and Racing Commission at Kansas Star Casino.
Toomey’s defense attorney, Steven Mank, said Monday, “Mr. Toomey looks forward to having his day in court.”
The theft charge accuses Toomey, 70, of theft of property valued at more than $100,000.
The mistreatment of a dependent adult charge alleges he took “unfair advantage” of resources valued at at least $250,000 but less than $1 million.
The three mistreatment of an elderly person counts each accuse him of taking property valued at from $100,000 to less than $250,000.
The alleged crimes occurred between October 2011 and March 2018, say the charges, filed in Sedgwick County District Court on June 27.
The charges list one victim, by his or her initials.
