Police investigating stabbing of man near Harry and Meridian

Police are still investigating an incident Wednesday afternoon that left a man hospitalized in critical condition with multiple stab wounds.

Officers were sent to a house in the 1800 block of South St. Paul at about 1:30 p.m., Lt. James Espinoza said. That’s near Harry and Meridian.

The officers found a 31-year-old man suffering from several stab wounds to his arms and legs. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment, where he is in critical condition.

“They appear to be defensive wounds,” Espinoza said. “We’re still trying to determine how long that individual was there” before he called police.

The delay between the stabbing and when authorities were notified has played a role in how serious his injuries are, he said. The man was found in the fenced backyard of a house.

The stabbing victim’s 31-year-old ex-girlfriend told police she was sexually assaulted, Espinoza said. Neither of them live at the house where he was discovered.

“We have not been able to talk to the stabbing victim,” Espinoza said. “Hopefully he improves.”

No arrests have been made and police have not released descriptions of any suspects.
