East Side Homes banned from doing business in Kansas after ignoring state lawsuit
An Augusta home builder has been banned from doing business in Kansas and ordered to pay more than $200,000 in restitution to customers after it ignored a state lawsuit.
East Side Factory Built Homes LLC and its owner, Ryan Andes, are banned from doing business in the state, Attorney General Derek Schmidt said in a release Friday. The company also did business as East Side Homes and Factory Outlet Homes.
The attorney general’s office had filed a lawsuit against Andes and his business in May, but it failed to respond in court, Schmidt said.
Andes and the company were ordered by Butler County District Court Judge Mike Ward to pay over $206,000 in restitution to four Kansas customers, as well as $220,000 in civil penalties, $1,000 for the cost of the attorney generals investigation and court costs, the judgment states.
The business was found to be in violation of consumer protection laws, the release said. It had allegedly accepted payment from customers, but never built their modular homes nor refunded the money.
