Man points gun at Wichita officer investigating abandoned vehicles, police say

A man pointed a gun at an officer who was investigating abandoned vehicles at a Wichita home, police said.

The officer was at a home in the 1500 block of north Topeka conducting follow-up on abandoned vehicles on Wednesday, Officer Paul Cruz said in a release. While the officer was there, a 51-year-old man “became agitated, and retreated into the home to obtain a firearm,” police said.

The man then walked out of the home and pointed the gun at the officer, witnesses told police. The officer retreated, took cover and waited for more officers to arrive, Cruz said in the release.

Cruz told The Eagle that he thinks the officer was at the home to investigate an abandoned vehicle that was illegally parked, and that the officer may have put a sticker on the man’s vehicle before the man pointed a gun at the officer. Cruz said he did not know if any verbal threats were made against the officer.

The man was peacefully arrested after police surrounded the home, the release said.

Booking reports show that William Lockheart Greiner, 51, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer and criminal threat in connection to the incident. Jail records list a bond of $25,000.
