A burglar’s master plan to break into a Dillons grocery store in the Twin Lakes area early Wednesday morning was foiled by a basic flaw: He didn’t realize there would be employees there at 3 a.m.
Employees stocking merchandise in the aisles of the store at 1910 W. 21st St. heard glass break as the burglar forced his way into the building, Lt. James Espinoza said. They called 911 and officers arrived to catch the 26-year-old man inside the store.
There were six employees inside the store at the time, Espinoza said, but they never came into contact with the burglar. The suspect caused an estimated $3,000 in damage to the store, which is not open 24 hours.
