Hearing in child sex crimes case of former school safety supervisor postponed

A preliminary hearing in the local child sex crimes case against former Wichita public schools safety supervisor and former Wichita police officer Alex Robinson has been postponed to Oct. 8.

Sedgwick County District Court records indicate the delay was requested by Robinson’s attorney. He had been scheduled to appear Wednesday on 10 counts, including aggravated criminal sodomy, aggravated indecent liberties and indecent liberties with a child.

The continuance is the sixth granted since Robinson was formally charged with eight counts involving three victims March 13. Earlier this month prosecutors tacked two additional charges — alternative counts of aggravated indecent liberties involving a fourth victim — onto the bevy of accusations.

Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett said at the time that the newest victim emerged during an ongoing investigation.

Robinson, 52, stands accused of molesting the children, ages 11 to 14, between Sept. 18, 2000, and Sept. 17, 2012. The first allegations surfaced in early 2013 after a 24-year-old man told Wichita police that he had been sexually abused by Robinson when he was 12.

Robinson faces similar charges in a Colorado court. He is scheduled for jury trial in that case Oct. 27.
