Wichita resident sees his home being burglarized on his cellphone

A 61-year-old man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after Wichita police say he was caught on video breaking into someone's house.

The homeowner has a motion-activated camera system in his house and saw the burglary happening from his cellphone just after noon Tuesday, Officer Charley Davidson said. The homeowner lives in the 3100 block of South St. Clair, near Meridian and 30th Street South.

He was able to give police a description of the burglar and his vehicle. Police found the vehicle nearby and arrested the 61-year-old man. Items that were taken from the house — including electronics, a rifle, tools and money — were found inside the vehicle, Davidson said.

The man, identified in arrest reports as Dale W. Owens, was arrested on suspicion of felon in possession of a firearm, burglary and parole violation.
