Couple tell police mountain bike was set on fire

Wichita police are investigating an arson that happened shortly before 2:30 a.m. Sunday in east Wichita.

A 26-year-old female and a 33-year-old male told police someone set fire to their mountain bike, which was on their patio. The fire caught the outer wall of their apartment, in the 5700 block of East Mainsgate, on fire, said Sgt. Ed Brower, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.

The couple said they heard someone running outside of their apartment shortly before they saw flames.

In what police say may be a related case, another fire was reported 20 minutes earlier in the 5900 block of East Mainsgate, Brower said. The fires occurred near 21st and Woodlawn.

No injuries were reported in either fire.
