Police: Pair pays for hotel room with counterfeit money

A man and woman were arrested Monday morning after they used counterfeit money to pay for a hotel room in south Wichita, police said.

The pair used fake $20 bills and $5 bills to pay for a room shortly before 8:30 a.m. at the Springfield Inn in the 600 block of East 47th Street South, Lt. James Espinoza said. The hotel clerk called 911 and officers responding to the report found the man and woman walking to a fast-food restaurant nearby.

The 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of counterfeiting and possessing meth and marijuana, records show. The 27-year-old woman was booked into jail on suspicion of counterfeiting and possession of meth.

A 19-year-old woman who was with the pair was arrested on suspicion of obstruction, records show.
