Woman shot outside house near Harry and Oliver

Police are investigating a shooting in southeast Wichita on Sunday night.

The shooting was reported at about 9:30 p.m. at 1536 S. Bleckley, a Sedgwick County dispatcher said. That’s just northeast of Harry and Oliver.

An argument during a party outside a house preceded the shooting, Lt. James Espinoza said. A 21-year-old woman was hit in the leg by a bullet and taken by her mother to Via Christi Hospital St. Joseph.

Several shots were fired, Espinoza said, but no one else in the large crowd that had gathered in the street or yard in front of the house was hit. Police are looking for the victim’s boyfriend, who left the area in a gold SUV.

The woman hit by the shot is in serious condition at a local hospital, Espinoza said. The crowd outside the house included children as young as 1 year old.
