Security guard shot in south Wichita

A security guard at a south Wichita store was shot in the hand Wednesday night, authorities said.

The shooting was reported at 8:14 p.m. at a smoke shop in the 2100 block of South Oliver, a Sedgwick County emergency dispatch supervisor said. The guard was shot in the left hand, according to radio communication between the ambulance transporting him and the hospital that will be treating him.

The guard’s wound was not classified as critical.

Police are looking for a suspect in the area. The intersection of Oliver and Mount Vernon has been closed by authorities as the search continued and motorists were being advised to avoid the neighborhood.

No suspect description has been released.
