Two armed robberies at west-side businesses Monday

Wichita police are asking for help in solving an attempted robbery and robbery that happened at two west Wichita businesses on Monday.

The first incident happened at around 8 p.m. at Famous Footwear, 6700 W. Kellogg. A 37-year-old employee told police a man came into the store, pointed a black handgun at her and demanded money, Officer Charley Davidson said Tuesday.

The man took money and left the store on a green BMX-style bike. He was described as being about 20 years old wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with gray camouflage sleeves. The sweatshirt had “TRKFT” across the front. The man was also wearing a red T-shirt under the sweatshirt, khaki cargo shorts, gray shoes and a red backpack, Davidson said.

Police are also investigating an attempted robbery at the Burger King in the 700 block of North Tyler.

A 56-year-old employee told police a person walked up to the drive-through just before midnight and asked for a drink. When she opened the window, a second person walked up and pointed a shotgun at her, Davidson said.

They demanded money but the employee ran away. The two robbers, described as being 15 or 16 years old, left without anything, Davidson said.
