Police: Man reports being assaulted early Saturday morning

Authorities called to check for a suspicious person in the 1100 block of South Vine early Saturday found a 47-year-old man with serious injuries, possibly sustained from a fight, Wichita police Sgt. John Hoofer said.

The man, who lives in the area, told police he had been assaulted around 12:45 a.m., Hoofer said Saturday afternoon. “He had significant abrasions and injuries that he was transported to the hospital in serious condition” for, and he was admitted to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis for medical evaluation, he said.

The man was unable to tell officers what happened or give a suspect description, Hoofer said, “but it was obvious that he was involved in some kind of disturbance.” Hoofer refused to disclose where the abrasions and injuries were inflicted on the man’s body. He said the man was conscious when officers found him.

Detectives plan to contact to the man “when he’s able to give a more detailed statement,” Hoofer said. He said as of Saturday there was no indication a weapon was involved.
