Candlelight vigil for slain mother, daughter in Newton
A candlelight vigil will be held Friday night in Newton in memory of the mother and daughter slain earlier this week, authorities said.
The vigil remembering Alyssa Runyon, 24, and Zaylynn Paz, 4, will be at 8 p.m. in the grassy space north of Roanoke Court in Newton, according to a post on the Newton Police Department’s Facebook page.
Runyon and her daughter were killed in their bedrooms at a duplex at Roanoke Court Apartments, police have said. They were found by Runyon’s ex-boyfriend Tuesday morning.
Keith Lane Hawkins, 19, was arrested at a family member’s house in Taylor, Texas, later in the day on Tuesday. He was driving Runyon’s vehicle.
The Facebook post called the vigil “a time for our community to come together, remember, grieve and hopefully begin the healing process.”
