Arrest made in 1983 Garden City homicide
Garden City police have made an arrest in a homicide that occurred more than 30 years ago.
Frank Rosas, 62, was booked into the Finney County Jail on Thursday night after new information was corroborated in connection with the fatal stabbing of Ignacio Vasquez in 1983.
Vasquez, 37, was found dead in the parking lot of the old Gambler club shortly after 3 a.m. on Aug. 27, Garden City Police Capt. Randy Ralston said in a statement.
Vasquez had been stabbed multiple times during a fight in the parking lot, Ralston said. Several bystanders were also stabbed or suffered other minor injuries.
One witness identified Octaviano “Toby” Rosas as the person who stabbed Vazquez, and charges were subsequently filed, Ralston said. But the witness refused to cooperate at the preliminary hearing, prompting the charges to be dropped.
New information in the case surfaced early this year, Ralston said, and ultimately led to the arrest of Frank Rosas. He faces a charge of second-degree murder, Ralston said.
Rosas is being held on a $75,000 bond.
Octaviano Rosas died in 2009 at the age of 76.
