Leawood woman charged with importing misbranded drugs

A Leawood woman was charged Friday with importing nearly $200,000 worth of misbranded drugs, authorities said.

Kathleen Stegman, 59, who owned Midwest Medical Aesthetics Center Inc., of Leawood, is accused of obtaining Botox, Dysport, Restylane, Perlane and Sculptra from foreign sources in 2011, 2012 and 2013, U.S. Attorney Tom Beall said in a prepared statement.

The drugs did not meet Food and Drug Administration labeling requirements. If convicted, Stegman faces up to three years in federal prison, a fine of up to $250,000 and forfeiture.

Last October, Stegman was sentenced to 51 months in federal prison for tax evasion.
