A 77-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder Wednesday afternoon in connection with a June 4 shooting in Crawford County.

It was immediately unclear what led to the violence that left 42-year-old Warren Hill with a bullet wound to his shoulder. But authorities applied for an arrest warrant for Muriece William Scholes of rural Frontenac and executed it shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday, Crawford County Sheriff Dan Peak said in an e-mailed news release. Deputies arrested Scholes without trouble, the release said.

He was being held in the Crawford County Jail on Wednesday afternoon in lieu of $200,000 bond, according to online jail records.

The warrant alleges Scholes shot Hill east of Pittsburg on June 4, Peak said. Deputies called to the area of 940 S. 250th St. at about 1:50 p.m. that day found Hill lying wounded on some property there.
