The body of a man missing from St. Joseph, Mo., was recovered from the Missouri River late Saturday morning, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation announced.

A citizen spotted the body of Daniel Purvis, 64, at about 11:30 a.m. in the river south of St. Joseph in Buchanan County, a statement issued by the KBI said.

Authorities had been searching the Wolf River and other bodies of water nearby since May 22. Christopher Colhour, 40, was arrested May 22 in Doniphan County in northeast Kansas in connection with the theft of Purvis’ 2009 Chevy Traverse, the KBI said.

Colhour was jailed in Troy due to his suspected involvement in the disappearance of Purvis, and now further charges are pending, the KBI said.

Agencies who assisted the KBI and the Doniphan County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation or search were the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, the Missouri Search and Rescue K-9 Unit, the Overland Park Police Department Dive Team, the St. Joseph Police Department, the Elwood Police Department, the Wathena Police Department, the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office and the St. Joseph Fire Department.
