A 31-year-old Wichita man jailed and charged in connection with a shooting that turned fatal is now facing a count of second-degree intentional murder.

Jimmy Suttle Jr. made his first appearance in Sedgwick County District Court on Thursday on the amended charge, according to court records. Originally, he was charged with the attempted first-degree murder of 50-year-old Leonard Childers of Wichita, who was shot in the torso with a handgun in the 1600 block of South Fern on May 14.

Childers died Monday while hospitalized, which paved the way for the upgraded charge.

Suttle, who remained in the Sedgwick County Jail on Thursday, also faces charges of robbery, making a criminal threat and criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. He is due in court for his next hearing June 1.
