A 42-year-old Salina man has been arrested and accused of killing his young son.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Monday, police and first responders were sent to a residence in the 900 block of East Ninth Street in Salina, according to a statement released by Salina Police Capt. Paul Forrester. An 11-month-old boy who lived at the residence was not breathing.

The first responders immediately began life-saving measures, and the child was taken to Salina Regional Health Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:15 p.m.

The child’s father, Michael Ray Hatfield, was arrested following an investigation, Forrester said. He was booked into the Salina County Jail on suspicion of felony murder, aggravated endangerment of a child, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
