Wichita police on Tuesday identified the man fatally shot at south Wichita earlier this month as 50-year-old Leonard Childers.

Childers, of Wichita, died shortly before 7 a.m. Monday at a Wichita hospital, where he was taken after being shot in the torso with a handgun at a home in the 1600 block of South Fern on May 14.

Jimmy Suttle Jr., 31, was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail in connection with the shooting. Last week he was charged with four criminal counts, including first-degree attempted murder. That charge could be amended to a more-severe offense after the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office reviews the case again on Wednesday, police have said.

Suttle also faces counts of robbery, making criminal threats, and criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, according to court records. He remained in jail Tuesday in lieu of $175,000 bond.
