A Wichita man who three women say stripped naked and followed them down a walking path at Sedgwick County Park is facing a criminal charge.

Jerry W. Schmidt, 50, made his first appearance in Sedgwick County District Court on Friday morning on one misdemeanor count accusing him of engaging in lewd and lascivious behavior in connection with the May 10 incident, court records show. The women — ages 57, 52 and 31 — called 911 after a middle-age man they spotted standing in a wooded area in the park, 6501 W. 21st St. in Wichita, “took off his clothes and began masturbating” then walked after them, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Lin Dehning said last week.

A deputy who responded to the call tracked down and arrested Schmidt after the women said where to find him, Dehning said. He remained in jail early Monday afternoon.

A judge on Friday set Schmidt’s bond at $50,000, court records show. His next court hearing, a bench trial, is scheduled for May 25.
