Man wearing shirt over face and brandishing gun robs Asian market

A man brandishing a silver snub-nosed handgun robbed an employee at a south Wichita business Wednesday night, police said.

The man entered the 4-Star Asian Market at 2441 S. Hillside at about 7:45 p.m. and forced the employee to the floor, holding the gun to his head, Lt. Steve Kenney said.

He then took the employee’s wallet and cash, along with several packs of cigarettes before leaving. Officers following up on the robbery talked to witnesses who said they may have seen the suspect just prior to the robbery, Kenney said.

They said he was a black man about 5-feet-5 and 160 pounds who went by the name Travon. He was wearing a white T-shirt, dark-colored striped shorts.

He was also wearing a blue T-shirt over his face, Kenney said.

The 51-year-old clerk was treated for minor injuries at the store, he said.
