Infant hospitalized with bruises, injuries in genital area
Authorities are investigating how an infant girl suffered bruising and other injuries to her genital area.
The child was brought to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis shortly before 8:30 a.m. Monday by her mother, according to a police document. The child had been in the care of relatives over the past few days, the mother told police, but she does not know how the injuries occurred.
The Exploited and Missing Child Unit has been called into the case, Lt. James Espinoza said. A sexual assault examination was planned.
The infant was admitted to the hospital. No arrests have been made.
