Man hospitalized after beating that left him unconscious 2 days

A 52-year-old man has been hospitalized after he was beaten so badly he was unconscious for about two days, police said.

After he woke up on Monday, the victim called 911 to report he had been attacked while drinking with two acquaintances in the 2900 block of South Hillside two days earlier, Lt. James Espinoza said.

One of those men, who is about 5-feet-7 and 180 pounds, began to kick him, punch him and “bash his head into the concrete,” Espinoza said.

The suspect then took a handgun and put it in the mouth of the victim, demanding his keys and his cell phone, Espinoza said. The attack occurred in a public area behind a building at 2941 S. Hillside.

The victim was transported to Via Christi Hospital St. Joseph with numerous injuries, according to a police document. Doctors discovered bleeding on the brain as well.

The victim was able to give investigators a first name for his attacker, Espinoza said.
