Newton police seek man who blew darts at swimming girls
Authorities in Newton have asked for the public’s help in identifying a man accused of shooting blowgun darts at two girls swimming in Sand Creek on July 27.
Newton police said the girls, ages 12 and 14, were in the creek in the 1500 block of North Main between 6 and 6:30 p.m. when a man and a woman fishing there became angry. The man threw objects at the girls, police said, then retrieved a blowgun and launched several darts in their direction. One dart hit the 14-year-old and penetrated 11/2 inches into her foot, police said.
Police described the couple as white and in their 30s or 40s. The man was wearing a white T-shirt and was holding a blowgun at the time of the assault.
Anyone who knows the identity of the man or the woman seen with him on the day of the alleged attack is asked to call the Newton Police Department at 316-284-6030. Anonymous tips can be submitted on the agency’s Facebook page under the “Submit A Tip” tab.
