Man arrested after leading police on chase through Hilltop neighborhood
A 30-year-old man led police on a chase through Wichita’s Hilltop neighborhood Tuesday, losing both his passenger and the vehicle he stole before he was captured with the help of a K-9 officer and dog.
Wichita police Officer Charley Davidson said two officers patrolling in the 1100 block of South Terrace, near Lincoln and Oliver, saw a car they knew had been reported as stolen and tried to stop it at about 3:30 p.m. But its driver — the 30-year-old man — sloughed off the attempts and kept going.
A woman riding with him jumped out of the stolen car in the 1400 block of South Bluffview, sustaining minor injuries, Davidson said. Eventually, the man crashed the car into a fence in the 4100 block of South Wilma and ran away.
Officers, with the aid of the K-9 unit, found him in a house nearby.
Davidson said officers arrested and jailed the man on suspicion of larceny, evading or eluding police and other traffic crimes. The woman was not arrested, he said.
