Man, driving past accident on I-135, leads officers on chase

A man has been arrested on numerous charges after he led officers on a chase through northern Sedgwick County.

The incident started around 5:30 p.m. Friday when police were working a traffic accident on northbound I-135 near 29th Street North.

An officer was directing cars away from emergency vehicles in the highway median. Instead of following the other cars, one driver didn’t slow down, and the officer had to jump out of the way. The car drove past on the inside shoulder.

The officer called other officers to track the car. The car continued up I-135, followed by law enforcement cars, avoided police spike strips, but stopped at the former Kansas Coliseum where he was arrested.

He was booked on charges of aggravated assault, assault on a law enforcement officer, driving under the influence, speeding to evade and elude arrest and many traffic charges.
