Man shot with own gun after attempted home invasion
A 30-year-old man is in a local hospital after being shot multiple times by a Wichita homeowner while attempting to force his way into the house.
Lt. Todd Ojile of the Wichita Police Department said the 39-year-old male homeowner was able to wrestle the suspect’s gun away before shooting the suspect multiple times. The incident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. Monday night in the 1400 block of East Morris, near Lincoln and Washington.
Ojile said the suspect was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and, as of Tuesday morning, was in a surgical care unit. Ojile said the suspect and shooter did know each other.
The homeowner and his girlfriend, who was at the house at the time of the incident, were questioned by police and released. A second individual who arrived at the residence with the suspect fled the scene, Ojile said.
The original call that came to police was for a burglary, though dispatch put out a shooting call just seconds later, Ojile said.
