Arrests made in connection with fatal Planeview shooting

Wichita police have arrested two people in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman in Planeview earlier this month.

Records show a Jose Enrique Fortiz, 21, was arrested shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday at a house northeast of Pawnee and Webb Road and booked into jail in connection with the shooting of 24-year-old Nichole Saldana late on the night of May 13.

About 15 minutes after Fortiz’s arrest, a teenage boy was arrested in Planeview in connection with Saldana’s death. Records list the boy’s age as 17.

Saldana and her husband were walking in the 3500 block of East Roseberry when several shots were fired just after 11:45 p.m. on May 13, police have said. She was hit once in the head and died at the scene.

Both Fortiz and the teenage boy are documented gang members, Lt. Dan East said.
