A 2-year-old boy was found walking outside without a guardian in only a diaper early Thursday morning, according to Wichita police.
Sgt. Nikki Woodrow of the Wichita Police Department said the boy was found at about 4:30 a.m. in a parking lot in the 1100 block of West Merton in southwest Wichita. The boy, who was uninjured but cold, was taken into police protective custody, Woodrow said.
The boy’s mother was eventually found asleep in a residence on the 1100 block of West Merton. The air temperature in Wichita around the time when the boy was found was in the high 30s, according to the National Weather Service.
Woodrow said police are investigating the child endangerment incident.
